You are the first president of CAFIC (China Association for Intercultural Communication) and one of the first scholars who introduced intercultural communication studies into China, and you've done a lot in developing intercultural communication in China. What is your most gratifying achievement in this field? What are some challenges involved? I would like to see this "your" as a plural. Since we introduced intercultural communication into China in the early 1980's, IC as a discipline has developed rapidly in this country. Publications have been increasing every year and we see more and more scholars involved in this field of research. Many universities and colleges now offer IC as a course. But there still remain some problems. The biggest one, as I see it, is the inadequacy of original research and creative thinking. There seems to be quite a lot of repetition in the articles published and in-depth research is lacking.
